The trend for cycling in campsites has been steadily on the rise in parks all over Australia as people embrace healthier lifestyles. Having ample cycling facilities at camping and caravan parks draws in a lot of people who want to cycle but who are concerned about the welfare of their bikes at other, less bike-safety equipped parks. Furthermore, if a large number of guests at a park are cyclists, it decreases congestion in the park during the day as guests are more likely to be out and about elsewhere on their bikes – enjoying the local scenery and bike trails. The obvious environmental and health benefits of cycling are another bonus.
While other parks in Victoria do cater for cyclists, most do not have CCTV-monitored bike racks. This may be playing a large role in the substantial increase of cyclists to Bright Pine Valley Tourist Park – along with the fact that the park is within easy reach of many varied bike trails. The park’s huge success in drawing in cyclists may influence other local and national parks to follow suit. Well-lit, secure and CCTV-monitored bike facilities, as well as easily accessible bike trials could have a huge positive financial influence on parks.
