Michael has been involved in the tourism, recreation and mining industries for over fifteen years. He has an intimate knowledge of front line tourism operations having managed quality tourism properties throughout Western Australia and Queensland.
Michael is well versed all aspects of project management from design and regulatory approvals to project administration and implementation of operational systems.
After gaining relevant business management qualifications Michael combined his knowledge of tourism facility operations and his passion for tourism development to undertake a twelve month project management contract with ASX Listed company Aspen Group, in the design, development and operational roll out of new multi dwelling tourism facilities. Based in Darwin, the role encompassed all facets of project management including land acquisition, due diligence, local government liaison, local and community engagement and cultural awareness. Along with the Darwin site Michael was also involved in the Aspen Group’s development of five other lifestyle village facilities along the east coast of Australia.
Through various projects, Michael developed a knowledge of modular building, which has seen him involved in the manufacture and distribution of modular accommodation, park homes, site offices and amenities buildings to suit industries such as mining, tourism, lifestyle, construction and local government.
Michael was involved in the operational roll out and development of mining accommodation for BHP Billiton for the Ravensthorpe Nickel Project. This required regular consultation with BHP Billiton HR management to ensure the needs and desires of BHP Billiton personnel were incorporated into the final product.
With a strong sporting background, it was inevitable that Michael would be drawn to the recreation industry. While employed with the YMCA Perth, Michael managed two multi use recreation facilities which included sporting courts, pools, gymnasuims, function rooms, child care and fitness classes. Being responsible for the complete day to day operations of the facilities, Michael was constantly reviewing community programs, marketing, membership, safety audits and market trends to maintain the viability of the facilities. The local government owned facilities also required Michael to report monthly to the Bayswater and Rockingham Councils on the membership and financial status of each centre. Michael was also involved in the refurbishment of the facilities and development of a new large recreation facility for the City of Rockingham utilising his industry knowledge and skills to produce the most efficient designs and deliver a safe and enjoyable facility for the benefit of the local community.
Michael's sport and recreation experience as a player and administrator, also led to a position as Football Manager for the Peel Thunder Football Club in the West Australian Football League. Responsible for such tasks as player contracts, facility management and staff employment, Michael was involved in the redevelopment of the Rushton Park facility in conjunction with the WA Football Commission.
In his current role as senior project consultant at Brighthouse, Michael has produced and implemented numerous feasibility and business case studies for local government and the private sector. Michael also develops and implements standards compliant policy and procedure documents for a range of industries.
His "hands on" approach to project administration and management ensures the projects are delivered on time and on budget.
